Expand All
Award Administration
  • Upon notice of award, the $50,000 award amount will be transferred to the postdoc’s department and the postdoc should work with their fund manager to utilize the funds.
Financial Management
  • This award is intended to cover the postdoc's salary and benefits.
  • Funding will be provided to the postdoc's department in the amount of $50,000 to cover monthly salary and benefits over a total of 12 months (i.e., max $4,166.67/month).
  • Up to 10% of the award ($5,000) may be used for research expenses and/or travel to scientific meetings; should the postdoc choose so, the monthly maximum available for salary and benefits will be reduced accordingly.
  • The postdoc's faculty sponsor will be required to cover the remaining salary and benefits costs each month.
  • Indirect costs are not allowable on this award.
  • If the postdoc becomes ineligible for the award after activation and prior to the award end date, the remaining balance must be returned to KIBM.
Eligibility
  • The award is intended for the original postdoc applicant and cannot be transferred to another postdoc.
  • To maintain eligibility, the scholar must hold a full-time postdoctoral appointment at UC San Diego or the Salk Institute.
    • Please notify us at kibm@ucsd.edu if you reduce to a part-time appointment, accept another position, and/or move institutions.
  • This award cannot be held concurrently with another scholarship or fellowship that supports the postdoc's salary (or stipend).
    • Please contact us at kibm@ucsd.edu to discuss your specific situation if you plan to accept another award.
  • The awardee may not make a change in primary mentor without prior approval.
Reporting
  • An interim progress report (up to 2 pages) will be due 10 months after the start of the award.
  • Award recipients are expected to present the results of their KIBM-funded projects at the following year’s annual symposium.
  • A final report may be due within 3 months of award termination. Additional details outlining the reporting requirements and submission process will be provided in year 2.
Publications
  • Any publication or presentation resulting from work originated or completed during the award period should acknowledge support from KIBM.
    • Example: XX was supported by a Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind Postdoctoral Award.
