The Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind (KIBM) hosts meetings for early career researchers to help foster their research community at UCSD. Our goal is to bring early career researchers (non-faculty) together so they can meet, network and share research. This event is open only to EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS (grad student/ postdoc/ project scientist).

YKAVLI Virtual Fall Social

Pandemic got you down? Miss socializing with friends and colleagues? Join your fellow brain and mind researchers for the YKavli Virtual Fall Social! There will be rooms for discussing science, playing games, and sharing advice. You'll have a chance to connect with scientists of all levels, from tech to postdoc. Topics will include:

• Elevator pitches: Learn how to effectively and concisely convey your research. Practice public speaking amongst peers where you can receive feedback to improve your pitch.
• Interdisciplinary research: Don’t be late to the game, join our discussion of new emerging interdisciplinary fields and bridging the gaps between existing ones. Talk about participation in interdisciplinary research (neuroimmunology, neuropharmacology, neurochemistry, sickness behaviors, psychosocial interactions and mental health) and interest in creating cross-collaborations including sub fields within neuroscience, engineering, psych and cognitive science.
• Mentorship: Hindsight is 20/20 so come share your experiences and advice for how to handle difficult conversations/situations with advisors.
• Productivity: Working from home can make staying up to date on new research super difficult, join us in sharing strategies to improve your productivity and reduce your pandemic related anxieties.
• Social games: It's not all work, work, work: relax and enjoy playing classic multiplayer games with face-to-face video! (Set, Tetris, and Poker)
