Innovative Research Program

Awards

We are in our third year of granting innovative research awards to catalyze research focused on ideas that bridge different levels of organization of brain and mind. A goal of this program is to stimulate testing of hypotheses for which no standard funding stream is available. Preference is given to proposals that come from several disciplines or laboratories and for projects that catalyze new collaborative research. Another goal of this program is to generate preliminary data that will lead to new grant funding from other agencies. We have made 12 awards per year for amounts up to $30,000. In the past three years we have awarded nearly a million dollars to investigators at UCSD, the Salk Institute of Biological Studies, the Neurosciences Research Institute, and the Scripps Research Institute.
